Hong Kong Polytechnic University buys Masterclass
Starting in November 2004 the students of the Polytechnic University Library in Hong Kong can borrow the e-learning Masterclass Knowledge Management on a CD-Rom. Knowledge Management ProfessionalsThis masterclass is particularly aimed at knowledge managers, information managers, consultants and others who have a responsibility to develop and implement successful knowledge management initiatives in their organisation.
StudentsCIBIT has validated this masterclass based on its accreditation by Middlesex University (London) for 20 academic credit points. To do the exam you will need previous education to at least bachelor level.
In-companyThis 100% e-learning masterclass is also available for in company use. The in company version can be accompanied with a personal community website and facilitation from a senior knowledge management consultant. |

What are the learning goals of the different modules?
Module 1: Introduction to Knowledge Management (KM)- know the main topics in KM;
- understand the critical success factors of KM;
- understand the CIBIT roadmap to organise Knowledge Management-initiatives, including different phases in Knowledge Management programmes.
Module 2: Creating Focus for Knowledge Management- be able to perform the different steps in the CIBIT knowledge portfolio approach;
- understand the relationship between corporate strategy and Knowledge Management;
- understand the relationship between Knowledge Management and Key Performance Indicators;
- understand the main dimensions in Knowledge Management action plans.
Module 3: Corporate Memories & Portals- be able to apply the concepts of a corporate memory;
- know about the processes, roles and responsibilities which create a successful corporate memory;
- be able to organize the collection, structuring, review and distribution of experiences;
- know which IT-tools and portal technology could be part of a corporate memory;
- understand the major design issues of portals.
Module 4: Organisational Learning- know which principles underpin organisational learning;
- understand best practice sharing processes;
- understand which critical success factors are experienced in organisational learning and which tools can be applied within these processes.
Module 5: Communities- understand what communities are;
- be informed about possible instruments which can be applied by communities;

Which study methods are used?
This e-learning version of the KM masterclass offers you a wide range of study methods. Every module consists of six elements:
- a short video-presentation that comes with an automatic slide show, just as if you attended a traditional classroom;
- a roadmap that helps you to navigate through the course. In the beginning of every module the roadmap will show question(s) that will be answered in that module;
- annotated sheets, that deliver the core of the masterclass;
- extra background material, to deepen your knowledge;
- a business case exercise;
- reflective questions, that will give you food for thought.
Helpdesk/communityThe participants will get a password for a special interactive website where they can ask questions and discuss the different topics with other participants.

Managing consultant Rob van der Spek |
Rob van der SpekRob is managing consultant KM and worked for companies and organizations like Siemens AG, ISVOR-FIAT, Achmea, Sara Lee / DE, DSM, Telecom Italia, Unilever, The Dutch Ministry of Internal Affairs, FORTIS, NYNEX (USA) and the Royal Dutch Navy. He has been an invited speaker at several in-company seminars on Knowledge Management for ING, CMG, ABN-AMRO, FIAT, Telecom Italia, Unilever and Shell and was invited to present workshops at Stanford University and Cambridge University.
Rob is program leader of the Knowledge Management Masterclasses of CIBIT and the Business school of Middlesex University (UK) and Senior Research Fellow of ISVOR-FIAT, the corporate university of the FIAT group. He has published on knowledge in (inter)national media. Further he co-authored ‘KM, dealing intelligently with knowledge’. He is member of the editorial board of the journal of KM (MCB University Press).

Marco BerndsenMarco is involved in (inter)national projects within various segments in industries and services. He advises organizations on the positioning and implementation of knowledge management and supporting technologies. Marco’s circle of clients includes SNS/Reaal Group, SKF, Siemens, Unilever, Essent, Libertel (now: Vodafone), HBD (the Dutch organization of interest for Small and Medium Enterprises), the Academic Medical Centre 'Radboud' in Nijmegen, the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Dutch Ministry of Health Care and Sports.
In his projects, Marco’s focus is on establishing ways of working, aimed at creation and sharing of knowledge between individuals, departments or organizations. He is mainly involved in projects where innovative and complex ICT-tools are applied within business processes of organizations. As a lecturer Marco develops and provides courses on enterprise portals and KM.
Senior consultant Eelco Kruizinga |
Eelco KruizingaEelco is involved in various (international) KM projects. His main focus is on the design of knowledge infrastructures for organizations. Components of knowledge infrastructures that are of particular interest to him are communities of practice and corporate memories for sharing lessons learned. As a consultant, he is involved in lessons learned sharing programs and debriefing work of professionals in organizations. Currently, he is the project manager of K2 and performed the same role in KLIF - a knowledge and learning infrastructure for the Esprit LTI programme. Among his recent clients are the Dutch Olympic Committee, Royal Automobile Club (UK), Bell Atlantic (USA), Unilever, ING Group, Shell, KLM, the Italian Ministry of Education and the Dutch Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Furthermore, Eelco is a lecturer and course leader for several KM courses. He also publishes regularly and is invited as a speaker on these topics at international conferences.
Senior consultant Ben Römgens |
Ben RömgensBen is focused on scenario planning, knowledge strategies for centres of excellence, network organizations and communities of practice and learning in project- en program environment. He was amongst others involved in building scenarios for several Business Units of KPN Telecom en ING, FORUM Institute for Multicultural Development, KIWA and the Dutch Police forces. Furthermore Ben coached several teams in non-profit, the telecom and the financial branch in developing and is using scenarios for product and strategy development.
Ben uses scenario planning as a regular part of his consultancy work and also in training programs. He is a regular keynote speaker in (international) scenario seminars en training sessions. He also wrote several scenario articles.
Senior consultant Jan Kingma |
Jan KingmaAs a senior consultant KM Jan is engaged in assignments concerning the development and implementation of Knowledge Management in organizations. He focuses primarily on the organizational and change management aspects of the introduction of KM.
He works for both organizations in the public and commercial sector as a Knowledge Management consultant for companies like Siemens AG, Unilever, Philips, ING and for a number of departments, including the departments of agriculture, internal affairs, transport. He co-authored several books and publications in the area of performance indicators and KM. |
